CONGRESSMAN KINGSTON HONORS FORMER NMA LEADER IN THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD

August 8, 1997, OAKLAND, CA -- On Thursday, July 31, 1997 Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) submitted a tribute to Albert L. Piccetti, former leader of National Meat Association (a longtime San Francisco resident and entrepreneur, a resident of Sonoma County), in the Congressional Record as a noteworthy example of a story of the American Dream come true. "Mr. And Mrs. Piccetti had put in their time, taken risk, worked long hours, persevered and succeeded, but throughout their highs and lows, victories and defeats, they believe in America. What it stands for and what an individual can accomplish in our great system of enterprise and government," said Rep. Kingston. "Their story is worth telling…and I am honored to enter it into the Record."

Albert Piccetti, born in San Francisco in 1918, learned the value of hard work at a very early age. By the time he was 16, he was the sole supporter of his parents and younger sister. After working several years for the Golden Gate Scavenger Company, then fighting in World War II as an instrument flight trainer, and eventually sharpening his culinary skills at a local San Francisco bar and grill, Al was ready to take on a new business venture. In 1957, Al, with his brother-in-law and boyhood friend, purchased the family-run San Francisco Sausage Company, known for making traditional Italian Columbus Brand Salame. After almost 30 years of growing success, Al retired from the family business in 1985 as President and CEO. Al and his wife Agnes left San Francisco and moved to Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County to pursue a new dream of designing and planting their first vineyard.

As noted in the Record, "Al Piccetti’s warmth, generosity and friendship have touched thousands of people in his communities, church, family, and business. Al’s accomplishments are the story of the American Dream of hard work, love, dedication and respect."
